Commercial and business headshots have been around for quite a few years now. It’s important in business, whether you’re the CEO of a large corporation or an entrepreneur, to show your face, and commercial headshots used to be the answer to this. It builds trust and puts a person on the brand.
Commercial headshots however – do they really show off your business?
A quick google image search of business headshots brings up the screen shown here:
None of them stand out. As a potential client, I have no idea what these people do, or what they are like.
The days of business and commercial headshots are over. Businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals in business must now brand themselves.
Personal branding is not as scary or faddy as it sounds. It is simply taking business headshots and marketing to the next level. It’s about signature images which clearly show your brand, you and your values. I recently worked with a local Personal Trainer whose unique selling point was that he was completely direct and honest. It had also been difficult for him to retain clients at times, because they wanted something that he wasn’t offering.
In our consultation, we captured amazing images which not only showed him at work, but also clearly communicated his style to potential clients. We incorporated his existing logo and colour scheme and were able to produce a large variety of excellent photos which he could use for at least 6 months afterwards, images that he could use to promote weekly classes, and most important of all, images which spoke directly to his ideal client.
So, business headshots, marketing headshots, commercial headshots? Do they speak to your ideal client? Do they demonstrate how you work and your passion? Do they tell your client what to expect if they work with you? If not, it’s time to think about personal branding, because your business is personal.
